MEET THE TEAM

The people behind every build.

Race Protocol is a small team by design. The person you talk to about your car is the person working on it, from nut-and-bolt safety checks to custom fabrication and precision dyno tuning. Our goal is simple: get drivers on track, keep them on track, and unlock every ounce of potential from both the car and the person behind the wheel.

MEET DOUG

Doug Weaver, Founder

I was 14 when I started studying cars, and even then I saw them as engineering problems waiting to be solved. That way of thinking carried me through more than 15 years designing for a mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineering firm. The work covered power distribution, digital communications, aerodynamics, and thermal and fluid dynamics, the same fields that decide how a race car performs.

In 2022, I left the firm and opened Race Protocol next to Pitt Race. Today I spend my time on tuning, data acquisition and the engineering behind cars. I'm looking forward to research and development with our in-cylinder combustion pressure monitoring system, products designed in house, and a shop expansion in 2027.

I want a car to tell me what it is doing. A well-planned data logging setup turns guesswork into decisions, whether that means refining a calibration on the dyno, tracking down an electrical fault or understanding how a car behaves on track. I have never stopped learning, and I am always looking to make a good system better.

MEET CHANCE

Chance Fornear, JDM Specialist

I have had a passion for cars and motorsport ever since I was young. My first job was changing oil at the Valvoline near my parents' house; using that money, I got my first 240SX when I was 18 and have kept building on that passion ever since.

I went to college for computer programming and then worked for 13 years in the low voltage integration industry, installing, designing, and engineering solutions for audio video control systems. While this was my day job, I continued to support my passion for cars by modifying and maintaining both my own and friends' cars and attending race events all around the world, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Formula 1, the Indy 500, and driving in numerous drift events such as Final Bout, Vibes, the SmilexDeath Challenge, MatsEries, and more with my team, Deep Sleep.

Through my work in the low voltage integration industry, I met Doug, and when he opened the shop in 2022, I began working part time in the evenings until I eventually left my engineering role altogether and began working at Race Protocol full time.

My primary knowledge base is definitely JDM and Porsche vehicles, with a focus on 90s Nissan and Toyota chassis and their engines. Ask me anything you want to know about an SR20!
